LEcorché is a groundbreaking, intuitive tool developed by artists, for artists to reference anatomy. Its not a book, its not a sculpture. Its an elegant and painstakingly-detailed fusion of the two that takes the best of both and brings them into a whole new medium for learning.
Originally developed by animation sculptor Michael Defeo as a personal reference tool for his courses with anatomy expert Scott Eaton, this application has grown from a simple sculpture for the iPad into a fully-developed application for iPad, iPhone, Mac desktop.
Working with world-renowned anatomy expert Scott Eaton, Michael has designed an intuitive app that features classical, educational and instructional versions of Jean-Antoine Houdons iconic "écorché."
Rather than simply looking at a book or a sculpture, the artist can now:
* tumble and zoom the model from 360 degree angles;
* switch to Scotts updated version which keeps the original grace while providing anatomical corrections;
* toggle an informational overlay which will reveal a full muscular map that includes text indicating origin, inserts and actions.
* In addition, Scott is overseeing Michaels planar and primitive versions that will help the artist better understand the forms at play, with both artists working tirelessly to ensure maximum correctness, elegance, intuition and usability.
* This is not a posable figure. Rather, think of it as having this classic sculpture on your device.
Pros and cons of L'Ecorché app for iPhone and iPad
L'Ecorché app good for
I was waiting this since a few months ago. The digital sculpture is made by the best artists so it is way better than all the other digital anatomy tools in terms of accuracy and artistic quality. It is much more valuable than 5 dollars. MD, Thanks a lot for the app!
and the final app has arrived! This is gold, an absolute must have for artists doing drawing or sculpture traditional or digital.
Simple and elegant interface, very easy to navigate, tremendous anatomical accuracy. Love the new color maps and the Bammes figure seriously made my day.
I could say a lot more about the benefits of this app, but if you study artistic (or even medical) anatomy, just get it: its beautiful and educational.
Absolute top quality, thank you so much Mike Defeo and Scott Eaton for the hard work. Im very happy to own it, use it and learn from it.
Anton
still cant believe its only $5 ;)
This is a great tool for any artist working with the human form. A female would be great. Poses would be nice. More body types would be interesting. I know you guys are like heroes or something but if creating more is too time consuming perhaps you could include additional artists. I know many would be interested.
Seriously this app is awesome but I would like to be able to see the whole skeleton without that transparent material on top of it indicating the muscle structure. Could you please add that option?.
Great job !!!!
This app is great! I love being able to view the muscles from any angle or orientation. What would make this app perfect is if you could look up a muscle by clicking on its abbreviation. This would create less flipping back and forth in the interface.
Incredibly useful app when Im away from my Anatomy tool figure. One thing I would love to see in an update is the ability to see the figure without the toolbars through a toggle, the same way the photo app works would be good. Thanks for this.
Some bad moments
Great app, beautiful and intuitive design.
It unfortunately only crashes every time I try to open it. Big shame, please fix!!!!
Why is there only a male figure?
Why is it only fine boned?
Worst of all...
My computer CRASHES after every second action and
even when I opened the app
I feel cheated
What are the planned updates?
I have been using LEcorché Lite (which features the Houdon model and skeleton only) as a sculpting reference while eagerly awaiting the full version. I can tell already that the full version is going to be the most useful application I have on my iPad. The lite version is a good preview for those who are curious, and want to get a feel for the application, but rest assured, the full version is worth every penny of its extremely reasonable price.
Its obvious from the beauty and utility of this application that it is a labor of much love and hours of hard work on the part of the developers. It runs smoothly, and the two additional versions of the model included in the full version are sure to prove an invaluable tool in my toolbox.
My thanks to all involved in the creation of this exquisite reference. I am going to spread the word about this application on all of the art-related Internet venues I am a part of, as its well worth recommending!
I cant begin to tell you how long Ive been waiting for this to go gold. This is by far the coolest artist reference app Ive seen EVER! I watched it grow from an idea to a product and I will do my part to spread the word. Keep making more of these (ie. hands, dynamic poses). More than worth the price.
I have been using this all day and it is a masterpiece. If human anatomy is important to your work or play, this app will enhance your experience in unexpected ways. The best 5 bucks Ive ever spent.
So far I love it, great for reference and to review my Constructive Human Anatomy class. Definately worth it.
